Common Pipe Damage Problems

Deteriorating underground pipes create significant risks for property owners and infrastructure managers. Cracked pipes lead to soil erosion, structural instability, and potential collapse of surrounding ground. Tree root intrusion causes persistent blockages and progressive pipe deterioration. Corrosion and joint failures result in leaks that waste water resources and contaminate surrounding soil.

Traditional excavation repairs disrupt operations, damage landscapes, and incur substantial restoration costs. The consequences of delayed repairs escalate quickly—from minor leaks to complete pipeline failure requiring emergency replacement.

How Pipe Relining Works

Initial Pipeline Assessment

Our CCTV inspection equipment surveys the full length of damaged pipes, identifying defects, structural condition, and optimal repair methods. This comprehensive assessment ensures we select the most effective relining approach for your specific pipeline conditions.

Pre-Relining Pipeline Preparation

Before relining commences, our robotic milling units clear obstructions including tree roots, concrete build-up, and protruding connections. High-pressure water jetting removes debris and prepares internal surfaces for optimal liner adhesion. This preparation stage ensures the relined pipe achieves maximum structural integrity and hydraulic performance.

Trenchless Liner Installation

Our multi-functional rehabilitation units install structural liners using CIPP, UV curing, or fold and form methods selected for optimal performance in your specific pipeline conditions. These proven trenchless technologies create a new pipe within the existing structure, sealing cracks, preventing root intrusion, and restoring full pressure capacity. For comprehensive network rehabilitation, lateral lining systems address branch connections simultaneously with main pipe repairs.

Post-Installation Verification

Following liner curing, we conduct comprehensive CCTV surveys confirming complete defect remediation and verifying hydraulic performance. Detailed documentation provides evidence of successful rehabilitation and supports asset management planning.

Advanced Relining Technologies

CIPP (Cured-In-Place Pipe) Relining

Our CIPP systems install resin-impregnated liners that cure in place, creating a structural pipe within the existing asset. This proven technology addresses pipes from 100mm to 2500mm diameter, accommodating most stormwater and wastewater infrastructure. The seamless liner eliminates joints and weak points, providing superior hydraulic performance and extended service life.

UV Curing Technology

TDG’s UV curing systems offer rapid installation for time-critical projects. Ultraviolet light initiates the curing process, allowing liner installation and curing within hours rather than days. This technology reduces project duration, minimises traffic disruption, and returns infrastructure to service faster than traditional thermal curing methods. UV curing works effectively in ambient temperatures and flowing water conditions where other methods face limitations.

Fold & Form Lining

Our fold and form systems provide versatile solutions for pipes 100mm to 2500mm diameter. The liner enters the pipe in a temporarily deformed state, then expands to the original pipe diameter using steam or hot water pressure. This method suits pipes with limited access points and achieves tight-radius bends that challenge other relining technologies. The structural liner bonds to the host pipe, restoring full pressure capacity.

Lateral Lining

Branch connections and service laterals require specialist rehabilitation to prevent leaks and root intrusion at junction points. Our lateral lining systems seal connections from 75mm to 300mm diameter, addressing the junction point where main and branch pipes meet. This targeted approach eliminates excavation at multiple property connection points, providing cost-effective rehabilitation for entire pipe networks including all service connections.

    Pipe Relining FAQs

Pipe relining typically completes in one to three days depending on pipe length and condition, compared to one to two weeks for excavation and replacement. Trenchless methods eliminate excavation, backfilling, and surface restoration time, returning your infrastructure to service significantly faster.

TDG’s relining systems accommodate concrete, clay, PVC, and cast iron pipes from 100mm to 2500mm diameter for main lines, and 75mm to 300mm for lateral connections. Our CIPP, UV curing, and fold and form technologies handle straight runs, bends, and junctions, providing versatile solutions for most pipeline configurations. A CCTV assessment confirms the optimal relining method for your specific infrastructure.

Modern relining materials add minimal thickness—typically 3mm to 10mm depending on pipe diameter and condition. For most applications, this reduction has negligible impact on hydraulic capacity. Our technicians calculate flow characteristics to ensure relined pipes meet operational requirements.

Structural pipe liners installed by TDG Environmental carry manufacturer warranties of 50+ years when properly maintained. The seamless, corrosion-resistant liner eliminates joint failures and root intrusion points that commonly cause pipe deterioration, extending infrastructure life well beyond traditional repair methods.

Yes, continuous structural liners seal multiple cracks, joint separations, and deteriorated sections in a single installation. Our CCTV surveys identify all defects requiring remediation, and the liner installation process addresses the entire affected pipe length simultaneously, providing comprehensive rehabilitation.

Trenchless relining typically costs 40-60% less than excavation and replacement when accounting for total project expenses. Savings include eliminated excavation costs, minimal surface restoration, reduced traffic management requirements, and avoided business interruption. Additionally, faster completion times reduce labour and equipment costs substantially.

UV curing uses ultraviolet light to cure the resin liner, completing installation in 2-4 hours compared to 6-24 hours for steam or hot water curing. UV technology works effectively in colder conditions and live flow situations, making it ideal for time-critical repairs and challenging environmental conditions. Traditional CIPP thermal curing suits longer pipe runs and larger diameters where UV light penetration may be limited. Our technicians select the appropriate method based on pipe diameter, length, ambient conditions, and project timeline requirements.
