Hurricane Harvey slams the automotive industry

The impact of Hurricane Harvey in Texas is massively widespread and devastating. One aspect is the huge number of cars that are a total or partial loss as a result of the flooding. With Houston being one of the US's most car-reliant cities, the impact of this hurricane damage is yet to be realised.
28,600 car-related insurance claims have already been received by one of the State's largest insurers, with 85% of these total losses.
And as for replacement vehicles, while manufacturers scramble to meet demand, many residents no longer want to purchase cars, believing trucks or utes are a safer purchase.
This article from the The Washington Post provides alarming insight into the scale of this transport issue.
